Key Updates from IPL Captains’ Meeting-IPL025 update

Key Updates from IPL Captains’ Meeting

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a crucial meeting with IPL team captains, coaches, and managers on March 20, 2025, ahead of the 18th season of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL). Representatives from all 10 IPL teams shared their insights, leading to several important updates for the upcoming season.

Key Changes for IPL 2025:

1) Saliva Usedd for Ball Maintenance

Bowlers will once again be allowed to use saliva to shine the ball starting from IPL 2025. This decision marks a return to traditional ball maintenance techniques after the ban was imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following discussions with all teams, the restriction has now been lifted.

2) Ball Replacement to Counter Dew

To minimize the impact of dew on evening matches, teams bowling second will be allowed one ball change request after the 10th over.

  • The bowling captain can make this request, even if there is no visible dew.

  • The umpires will provide a replacement ball of similar wear and tear, but the bowling team cannot choose the ball.

  • Umpires may also change the ball before the 10th over if it becomes too wet, damaged, or out of shape.

  • If a captain later requests a ball change due to dew, umpires must replace it as per the rule.

3) New Code of Conduct

A revised Code of Conduct will be enforced from IPL 2025, introducing a demerit points and suspension system. These penalties will remain valid for 36 months, ensuring stricter discipline among players.

4) Expansion of DRS Scope

The Decision Review System (DRS) has been expanded to include:
Height-based no-ball reviews
Wide-ball reviews outside the off-stump
This enhancement will utilize Hawk-Eye technology and ball-tracking to improve accuracy and consistency in umpiring decisions.

These updates aim to enhance fair play, competitiveness, and the overall experience for players and fans in IPL 2025. 🚀🏏
